News
- Well, it took me quite a long time, but finally this journal managed to be updated and tidied up a little. Thank you so much to =Grim-away and *Serenity-Sama for helping me with some bumps along the way!
- I know I've updated some of my gallery, but there's still lots of things that need organizing before I can call myself "active" again. There's still some blank blocks on the sidebar here that I'm not sure what I should put in them yet...any suggestions? Would anyone want a F.A.Q.? I don't get asked may questions so I wonder if I should >_<;; Links to info? I haven't even DARED to open any commissions because I don't think people are very interested in them. What do you think? (Maybe I'll make a poll)
- Also I want to organize my "friend" list here on DA before adding that box to my front page...as well as customize the gallery folders, since I DO want quite a few of them (I love separating things into categories man T^T kay?).
OUTSIDE of DA I still need to clean my bedroom and my studio. Including the basement to the house, as we're becoming quite cluttered and it's starting to bother more than one person in this household. I've managed to get some more drawer space in my dresser as well as clear a couple shelves in my closet for more books XD yes yes it's a sad thing.
- Once these are all clean and organized to my satisfaction, I want to share with you all what my room and studio look like! XD Because I quite like them and I want to show how CRAZY a bookworm I am. (and YES that includes my manga and art books)
- As for news on my PERSONAL life..well...there's a ton that has happened since last november when I last said this journal. I finally managed to graduate from Winnipeg Technical College with my certificate in Production Art last December. Quite exciting since it's a course under my belt that I'm happy I learned! Regretfully after wasting application money, I never made and sent portfolios in to Red River College. I just don't think I want to become a graphic designer afterall, I got a taste of it with the job I took after graduating (leading to the next point)
- After college I worked at a UPS store for full-time for about six months, along with still keeping extra foods part-time. Why? Because the store had NO benefits whatsoever..I know it was small, but in case of emergencies I couldn't risk not having some form of reassurance or coverage. So I worked at the store during the day, from 8-4, then evenings/weekends at Extra Foods. I managed after a time to get a concrete schedule that worked for both jobs in harmony.
Bbuuttt trust me..I HATED working 60 hours a week..it was really draining me down, trust me, my friends saw it. The money was great, but other than that, I was working so much that I had started to neglect all the things I love, and fell into a cycle that became work work work...I even DREAMED of printing jobs an hour before I was supposed to wake up that DIDN'T EVEN EXIST. By some miracle I managed to visit some friends in between the jobs and get a little cosplaying done, but at my art's expense. Even on easter weekend I went in on good friday and easter sunday, holidays, to help out the boss at the store (the OT was nice but still it killed)
- Then in May, after the big school year and the architecture, environmental design and graphic students either graduated or had their summer vacation, the store died down quite a bit. It was then that I sorta got..laid off. As for the reasons why, don't ask, because even today I'm not sure. Trust me I've gone through all the possibilities in my head, but it could be any of them since he hadn't been too clear about it.
That was okay though..I had started applying at other places because it was just becoming too much for certain reasons (my friends know, but I don't really feel like ranting here on DA, the past is the past). So I was sssoorrrttaa unemployed for two weeks, save for the small shifts at E.F., but then around the end of may I finally got a phone call and interview for Color Ad Packaging. They're a printing company that does Flexography, a little Gravure, etc and make the labels for pop bottles, cookie bags, quaker bags, popcorn bags, etc. The guy seemed to like my resume (FINALLY someone who's eye got caught from the design!!) and my small background knowledge of printing, and he was really nice. He even wanted me to meet the owner and manager of the plant that day! But they were in meetings..so he called me later to come in tomorrow. I waiting TWO HOURS DAMNIT!! Just to see the owner, and people had gone ahead of me, etc. Two hours sitting in the lobby man...whether that helped me get the job or not who knows. I'm not an operator or anything, just a tender (checking the bags before packing them), but who knows where this could lead to!
- And after 3 years of working at Extra Foods, I had to quit when I started the new job. It was a big step for me, not just because I was leaving a place I knew well enough, but because -I- made the decision. My parents had been agaisnt it, wanted me to keep it until the 3 months were up, but I couldn't bear to work 7 days a week, that would kill me. I handed in my resignation (to many people's surprise) and voila! Working monday to friday, shift work at Color Ad as we speak. I'm a little sad I can't take any evening courses because of the job, like one on pattern making, and I have to drop my Japanese class, but it's just something that can't be done with such a schedule. I'd be missing every second class, it wouldn't be worth it.
- Sooo for now I'm working full-time, have weekends off (haven't been asked for OT yet), and I'm trying to balance things ^^ I'm also trying to teach myself to budget and not SPLURGE Like I have been doing too much the past few months <_<;; (DAMN YOU EEBBAAAYYY!!). Currently besides my savings for car insurance and RRSP, I'm putting money away for some future trips: Japan is my priority, =Grim-away and I want to visit there for 2 weeks next year, to go visit :inconangelmyu: who is leaving for Osaka in 2 days!!! OMG WEE!! *So excited for them*. Two other trips is the long awaited one to visit ~Chrizzyfurr in the Netherlands...exactly when that will be I'm not sure, but I'm proud to say I have currently $620 put away for iittt >3< I am not giving up! Then the third is possibly Anime Boston next April...that one is still in the planning stages more than anything, so we'll see!
- Another thing I want to start saving for is going to a private college in Toronto...it's called Max the Mutt and you can get a Diploma in Concept Art!! It's 4 years..but just looking at the website gets me going. Hopefully I can get a portfolio done next year so I can at least get a place in the school, though not sure if I can afford it just yet.
- Wow this journal is long...if I've bored you until now I'm sorry, just wanted to update everyone. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, to update steadily, to organize everything and feel so fresh about it! XD Yeess...nice and fresh.
- OH!! PENPALS PLEASE UPDATE ME WITH YOUR ADDRESSES IF YOU CAN!!! A few years have passed since I've last sent mail so I need to make a new mailing list! I'll try contacting you all soon when I get the chance!!
- Whelp, for now this'll have to do! I'll continue cleaning and organizing tomorrow!
- Toodles! Love y'all!
